About TRICOIL
We Invented TRICOIL to resolve indoor air quality issues caused by high indoor
humidity without using new energy for reheat to satisfy code restrictions. The basic
premise of the system is the use of recuperative heat transfer which provides a
simultaneous reheat and precool. In other words; heat extracted from the return air
stream is used as heat for reheat in the supply air stream. In this manner not only is
the reheat "free" there is also a energy saving precooling effect in the return air
stream.
This is much as a Heat Pipe operates, however, the TRICOIL Method is easily
controlled because we use water as the heat transfer medium instead of refrigerant.
For a typical system using recirculation air you could have 8 degrees of reheat and
8 degrees of precool for instance. For a 10,000 cfm system that would be an
equivalent of over 25 kw of free reheat and over 7 tons of free cooling while only
using a fractional horse power pump to circulate the water and the addition of two
coils.

(1) PRECOOLING COIL: Mixed return
air and outside air (up to 100% outside air)
enters the precooling coil where heat is
transferred from the warm air to the cool
water. As the temperature of the air drops
there is a proportional rise in water
temperature.
(2) PRIMARY COIL: Precooled air
enters the primary cooling coil where the air
temperature is further reduced and
moisture is removed from the air. Primary
cooling uses either chilled water or
refrigerant.
(3) REHEAT COIL: Cool, dehumidified
air enters the reheat coil where heat is
transferred from the warm water to the air
stream. As the air temperature rises there
is a proportional drop in water temperature.
(4) TRANSFER PUMP: An optimally
sized pump is used to transfer warm water
to the reheat coil from the precooling coil
and/or the heating hot water source. Cool
water leaving the reheat coil is transferred
back to the precooling coil to complete the
precool/reheat cycle.
THE TRICOIL SYSTEM IS PROTECTED BY UNITED STATES OF AMERICA PATENT LAWS, PATENT NUMBERS 5,181,552 5,225,302 AND 5,337,577. OTHER U.S.A. AND FOREIGN PATENTS ARE PENDING.

(5) TRICOIL LOOP PIPING: The loop
piping is used to connect the precooling coil
to the reheat coil. In addition to the transfer
pump the loop piping contains the control
valve, balancing valve, drain and fill fittings,
and other minor piping accessories.
(6) TRICOIL SYSTEM CONTROL
VALVE: This valve regulates the amount of
hot water that is introduced to the TRICOIL
loop for precise humidity control and
seasonal primary heating control.
(7) HEATING SOURCE: Heating Hot
Water source can be any type of hot water
heating system such as; gas fired or electric
hot water generator, heat recovery, solar, or
hydronic heating
(8) CONTROL PANEL: The basic
control system provides simple operating
controls and safety interlocks. Control
system options makes the TRICOIL system
virtually unlimited in application.

For 100% outside air requirments the TRICOIL method is integrated into a Dedicated Outside Air System
(DOAS). When used with a standard enthalpy wheel the TRICOIL method can provide 100% outside air at an
efficiency of 500 cfm per ton of air conditioning.
We have over 25 years of experience in providing systems from as small as 600 cfm all the way to 40,000 cfm.
All manner of systems and applications have been provided including systems using chilled water or direct
expansion (DX) for primary cooling,
