TRICOIL is a patented wrap-around precool reheat system that resolves stubborn dehumidification problems — using recovered energy for reheat, reducing your cooling load, and staying fully compliant with energy codes.
TRICOIL is a recuperative process. Heat extracted from the incoming air stream in the precooling coil is the exact same heat used for reheat — resulting in simultaneous dehumidification and energy savings.
Mixed or 100% outside air enters the precooling coil. The air gives up heat to the circulating water loop, reducing the load on the main cooling coil and the primary chilled water or DX plant.
Pre-cooled air passes through the main cooling coil where it is cooled to the required dewpoint and moisture is removed. Because of the precooling effect, a smaller primary cooling plant can often be selected — saving first cost.
Cool dehumidified air is reheated using the warm water recovered from the precooling coil. No new energy source is consumed. The water, now cooled, returns to the precooling coil to complete the cycle.
A small fractional-horsepower pump circulates water between coils. Pump speed or a bypass valve can modulate the reheat level precisely. Hot water heating can also be introduced to the loop for cold-climate preheat or supplemental reheat in 100% OA systems.
TRICOIL handles any amount of outside air from 0% to 100% and has been successfully applied across a wide range of building types and climate conditions.
Hospitals, clinics, clean rooms, and laboratories require precise humidity control for patient safety and process integrity. TRICOIL delivers code-compliant dehumidification at any ventilation rate.
Educational facilities benefit from TRICOIL's energy savings and superior IAQ. Handles variable occupancy loads and high ventilation rates required by ASHRAE standards.
Office buildings, retail spaces, and mixed-use facilities in humid climates. Compatible with CAV, VAV, and multizone systems. Resolves part-load humidity rise in VAV applications.
Indoor pools and therapy pools demand precise independent control of supply air temperature and humidity. TRICOIL prevents moisture damage while maintaining comfortable conditions for occupants.
Fan coil units fitted with the TRICOIL method resolve humid hotel rooms and improve guest comfort. Also applied to central systems for lobbies, meeting rooms, and amenity spaces.
TRICOIL is a natural fit for dedicated outdoor air systems. Maintains neutral or setpoint supply conditions efficiently and can combine with enthalpy wheels for maximum energy recovery.
Semiconductor manufacturing requires ultra-precise humidity control. TRICOIL's stable, energy-efficient operation meets the demanding tolerances of cleanroom and fabrication environments.
Provides precise temperature and humidity control without specialty dehumidification equipment. Maintains comfortable spectator areas while managing condensation risk on the ice surface.
From single-family homes to multi-family residential developments, TRICOIL improves indoor air quality and comfort in high-humidity climates where standard systems fall short.
Not a heat recovery system. Not a traditional reheat system. Something better — a patented recuperative method that does both simultaneously, at no additional energy cost.
All heat used for reheat is recovered from the precooling process. No electric resistance, no hot gas, no new fuel — meaning full compliance with modern energy codes.
Precooling reduces the load on the primary chilled water or DX system. Smaller equipment, lower first cost, and reduced operating cost — all from the same process.
Traditional new-energy reheat is prohibited by ASHRAE 90.1 and most state energy codes. TRICOIL uses only recovered energy and is fully compliant in all jurisdictions.
Water is used as the heat transfer medium rather than refrigerant. Easier to control, no additional refrigerant required, compatible with standard hydronic systems and hot water heating.
Variable speed pump or bypass valve modulates reheat continuously. Works in CAV and VAV systems, adjusting dewpoint setpoint under part-load conditions to maintain target relative humidity.
Protected by three US patents (5,181,552 · 5,225,302 · 5,337,577). Over 30 years of successful installations across diverse climate conditions and building types, from 600 CFM to 40,000 CFM.
TRICOIL delivers the greatest value in high-humidity climates and in applications with demanding ventilation or dehumidification requirements.
